Nora Milligan Critical Care RN, CARC, CPRS, CRAFT

Nora Milligan is a woman in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder and the loving parent of a young man in recovery as well. With over 13 years of abstinence based recovery and extensive recovery coach training, she is well informed and supports all pathways of recovery, including harm reduction approaches. She is a Critical Care RN, CPRS, CARC, and trained in the CRAFT approach for Family Recovery Coaching. She is the former President of A2R Addiction to Recovery Magazine and is a member of Families in Support of Treatment (F.I.S.T.) and Long Island Recovery Association (LIRA).

Nora was a part of the NY State Advocacy movement that brought about real legislative change aimed at targeting the opioid epidemic. In 2014 she was appointed to Governor Cuomo's NY SUD workgroup committee to represent the recovery community and their families. She was formerly on Suffolk County's Recovery Home Oversight Committee and sat on the Advisory Committee of Long Island's Recovery Community Outreach Center THRIVE. Nora shared her experiences with the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Support (OASAS) to help create the online educational Kitchen Table Toolkit. This interactive support tool helps people learn and have important conversations about harmful substance use in the family and community.

She was also featured in Newsday's Heroin Diaries and was the 2017 recipient of the LIRA ‘Friend of Recovery’ Award. She is a passionate public speaker and frequently shares her story of recovery with families, community members, legislators, schools, treatment centers, and jails to decrease stigma and show others that recovery is possible for all. Today Nora resides in Virginia and stays very active in her recovery community. She offers individual and family recovery coaching and especially enjoys sharing her stress reduction methods based in mindful photography and art. She offers free workshops to nonprofit organizations and the community and will soon be bringing a new recovery resource magazine to the Richmond area.
